About Julie Stacey and Ian Burgess

Two of our Professional Development Awards are dedicated to the memory of Ian Burgess and Julie Stacey, past members and supporters of the BHBIA and its training initiatives.

Julie Stacey (1958 – 1999)

Julie read Economics and Bristol University before starting her pharmaceutical marketing career with Duphar Laboratories (now Solvay). She later moved agency-side and joined Markon Market Research before founding her own agency, Research Quorum, in 1987.

Julie developed and ran training courses through Research Quorum, in addition to dedicating time to lecturing and running courses for the BHBIA, MRS and ABMRC.

Ian Burgess

Ian Burgess started his career in pharma as a chemist before moving into Product Management, where he was responsible for the launch of Inderal, the UK’s first beta-blocker.

In the late 60s, Ian moved agency-side and spent the rest of his career pioneering and developing data collection and linkage methodologies. This led to him setting up his own company, Linked Medical Data, where he created the New & Change Therapy Enquiry (NCTE). This eventually became DIN-LINK, under Ian’s guidance, when he worked with CompuFile from his ‘retirement home’ in Alderney until he died in 1994.
