Webinar recording and slides are now available. There is also a Q&A document which covers all the questions raised during the webinar, including some that we didn't have time to answer on the day. The UK formally left the EU on the 31 January 2020 and entered a period known as ‘transition’ scheduled to last until 31 December 2020. During the transition period, there was no need for us to do anything differently with regard to data protection.

After 31 December, the GDPR will continue to apply, as it has been incorporated into the UK Data Protection Act 2018.

However, for data to continue to flow freely from the EU to the UK from 2021, the UK must apply for and EU needs to issue an ‘adequacy decision’ this year.

Our goal is to help members to understand what changes the UK’s exit from the EU could bring for data protection issues and the practical implications of these for researchers and analysts.

As we draw closer to the UK’s exit from the EU, we still don’t know if the UK is going to exit with a data protection deal or not.  If we don’t have one there will be significant implications for researchers and analysts who process personal data.  Time is running out to plan for the impact of no data protection deal.  So, the BHBIA Is running a webinar to explain to client and consultancy/agency side members what Brexit could mean for data protection practices, to help you prepare.

We will talk about:

  • What could happen;
  • What this means for market research and data analytics;
  • What you need to be ready to do.

We are very grateful to the Ethics & Compliance team for giving their time and expertise for the benefit of BHBIA members
