Face to Face Workshop
BHBIA Empowering the Analyst - Influencing without Authority
Hamilton House, Mabledon Place, London WC1H 9BD
Tuesday 19 September 2023, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Our objective is to help analysts move towards being business partners rather than just providers of data. Learn how to influence your key stakeholders so that you can go beyond data analysis to explain the ‘why’ as well as the ‘what’.
On the Day
Attending this one-day workshop will equip you with a host of soft skills that are key to effectively and impactfully communicating the insights gathered through analysis. Sessions are designed to help you gain the confidence to challenge requests, learn to say ‘no’ appropriately, sharpen your insights communications through effective structuring, and understand and identify the working styles of yourself and your stakeholders. The day is a mixture of classroom-based learning and presentations, mixed with practical sessions to try out some of the new skills in a safe environment before taking them back to the office.
Insights Discovery®

Discovery® session is hosted and run by a professional trainer, working in

communication style in the workplace.
This Discovery Profile is personal to you and will contain information about
your personal style, key strengths and weaknesses, influencing and tips on
effective communication.

Facilitators and Speakers
Paul has been in the industry since 2001, joining Novo Nordisk as a Business Intelligence analyst, progressing through various BI roles at all levels and now has a leadership position within Sanofi.
Paul has always focused on both marketing and sales information ensuring information and insight is delivered to bridge the gap between the sales, marketing and market access functions with the aim to maximise synergies that ensure marketing strategy turns into sales success. This has culminated in three BOBI awards over the years: best use of secondary data; best customer insight; and best sales effectiveness research. Key projects have included the design and implementation of segmentation and targeting strategies, key account management planning processes with integrated analytics, and sales force optimisation projects – all of which have been intrinsically linked to maximise business return.
Paul is now Chair of the BHBIA and one of his primary areas of focus on the Board is ensuring the needs of the secondary data analysts, field force excellence colleagues, CRM specialists and data visualisation professionals are heard and, more importantly, acted upon.
Kate started her career in Pharma BI in 2010, initially managing key aspects of Sales Force Effectiveness (writing and managing incentive schemes, territory structuring, sub national data analytics, CRM system development) in addition to supporting the internal Marketing, Market Access and Commercial teams with their data driven insight generation from Brand Planning to tactical execution.
Prior to setting up KES Consultancy, Kate was a Business Intelligence Analyst at AbbVie in which role she was a member of 3 cross functional brand teams. This not only brought challenges of managing appropriate market, strategic planning and performance data, but also managing priorities, time and stakeholder expectations.
Having worked as an independent BI Analyst consultant since 2018, Kate is now keen to share her own experiences of managing business questions from the aspect of the analyst. She is a passionate believer in aspiring to shift perceptions of analysts from the people with all the spreadsheets to valued business partners and advisors!
Kate won the BHBIA's BOBI Analyst of the Year competition in 2021.
Su founded SkyBlue Healthcare Associates to provide Business Insights & Analytics support to healthcare clients by embedding client-side experienced consultants into internal BI teams.
Su spent over 20 years working client-side before transitioning into consultancy and throughout this time has championed the use of data insights to help drive strategy and to make informed business decisions.
She believes that having the confidence to challenge the status-quo and influence decision-making is critical in our roles within BI and as such, we should all have the ability to deliver insight-driven recommendations with impact.
She recently delivered a workshop on this topic at the 2023 BHBIA Annual Conference and was awarded the John Wheeler Award for best workshop.
She was also a Finalist in the 2022 everywoman Entrepreneur Awards.
Dana is a
Research Manager and has worked at HRW for 2 and a half years. She has an
interdisciplinary degree in Human Sciences at UCL, exploring what it means to
be human through anthropological and scientific lenses. Dana has a passion for
ensuring key insights shine for our clients and the strategic recommendations
and ‘next steps’ are clear for all audiences who might receive the report.
She is also a highly skilled presenter and speaks to the critical ‘must
know’ information to guarantee this isn’t lost in the ‘noise’ of a larger
report.
