One-day Workshop

How to Better Understand and Engage with NHS Payers

Hamilton House, Mabledon Place, London WC1H 9BD
Wednesday 20 June 2018, 12:30 PM - 5:00 PM

The first part of this workshop will demystify the NHS to provide delegates with a clear understanding of payer roles, objectives and decision-making processes, to help you optimise your access research in terms of both the approach and the outputs and insights for key brands:
  • Demystifying NHS jargon – introductory quiz and discussion on terminology;
  • Who’s who in the NHS? – different payer role types - what is important to them in interactions with pharma and their role in access decision making?
  • What does this mean for pharma MR in terms of who to engage with and how to engage with them when conducting market access research and, critically, when launching a new product – key learnings with regards sampling, approach, interactions and insights.

We will then look at harnessing the power of data to improve the NHS – there is a real opportunity for pharma to help shape NHS services by gathering data around relevant disease areas and identifying where it can help to improve patient outcomes and save money:

  • Having access to this kind of data can give pharma the edge by enabling it to approach a cash-strapped NHS with solutions rather than problems;
  • Delegates will learn more about the vast array of health and care data available, and understand how to glean the best insights to support business decisions and strategic planning;
  • Effective use of data can provide local insights into service provision, patient experience and customers’ behaviour allowing you to tailor value propositions and optimise resources to reach the right stakeholders, improve engagement and ensure sustainable outcomes.

Case studies will describe how it’s possible to use data insight and research techniques to understand the NHS landscape for a specific therapy/disease area and how to define your target customer segments by exploring questions such as:

  • What’s the burden of your therapy/disease area on the NHS?
  • Understanding the market environment: What are the trends? Is there variation in care? Where are the gaps in pathways?
  • Who are the relevant people that you should be contacting (customers), how can you identify them and where are they?
  • What are their challenges/pain points?
  • How can you tailor your value proposition to support your target customers?
