Purpose and status of the BHBIA Guidelines
The Guidelines are intended to:
Ensure that BHBIA members can confidently carry out primary healthcare market research in the UK that is both:
- Ethical - underpinned by the ABPI Code of Practice
- Legal - conforming to Data Protection, UK and EU legislation
Set standards for the design, execution and use of market research, taking into account guidelines from other regulating bodies:
- Market Research Society
- ABPI
- Non UK market research bodies
Adherence is mandatory for all BHBIA members.
The Guidelines are fully reviewed and updated at least once a year (with ad hoc updates at other times if required).
- When reviewing the Guidelines please note that the changes made since the last version are indicated with coloured arrows.
- The Guidelines also include around 60 practical examples in the form of questions and answers – these are marked by a question mark within an orange circle in the Guidelines – look out for the symbol and click to open the examples.
The BHBIA Ethics & Compliance Committee is there to help if you need it.
BHBIA members who have a query that’s not answered in the online resources can submit confidential enquiries to our Ethics Advisor via the Guidelines Queries form on the ‘My BHBIA’ dashboard when logged in.
… Look for the Guidelines & Legislation section of the BHBIA website. (This section provides a range of online ethics and guidelines resources).
