About the British Healthcare Business Intelligence Association (BHBIA)
The core aim of the BHBIA is Empowering the UK healthcare insights community to deliver excellence with integrity.
Our members are drawn from pharmaceutical/ healthcare companies and the agencies/consultancies that supply business intelligence services to those companies.
Our goal is to be the industry association for thought leadership, professional development and ethical standards in deriving insights within UK healthcare.
Ethical standards is recognised as an area of strength for the BHBIA and the Ethics advisor role is pivotal to maintaining and enhancing this reputation.

The role

Summary
Driving and supporting the BHBIA’s Ethics & Compliance Committee (ECC) in its work to:
- Understand the ethical, regulatory and legal obligations that impact UK healthcare business intelligence (BI);
- Communicate their practical implications to members through a wide range of initiatives that include guidelines, updates, presentations, training seminars and webinars;
- Develop positive working relationships with other stakeholder organisations to raise the profile of the BHBIA, its ECC, making a positive impact on policies, processes, guidance, regulations and laws that could/do impact our industry.

The goal of the ECC is to ensure that the highest levels of legal and ethical compliance are adhered to in all BI practices.

Tasks - Maintain the:
─ BHBIA’s Legal & Ethical Guidelines: Annual update; reviewing scope intermittently
─ ABPI/BHBIA AE/PC/SRS Guidance Notes
─ Topic-specific guides, new guides are occasionally added to the series below and in addition, changes in laws and regulations require occasional updates to several guides: Data protection guides, Data analytics guides, Quick guides
─ Respond to members’ confidential enquiries: About 5-10 enquiries a month, provide a response within 3 working days
─ Monitor the legal and regulatory environment (ICO, EDPB, ABPI, DHSC, DCMS): Provide responses to consultations, news items and updates
─ Support development and updates of training initiatives
- Online training modules and competency tests - L&E Guidelines, AER Guidance, DA training modules, Reviewers module
- Ethics and Compliance webinars (generally 2/3 a year)
- Advanced compliance seminar (biennial)
─ Contribute to ECC meetings: Quarterly; input to agenda, meeting and review minutes
─ Occasional contribution to other BHBIA committees (Sustainability, Fieldwork, DE&I)
─ Support: Conference presentation (annual)
─ Liaise with other stakeholder organisations, including: ABPI, ICO, EFAMRO, EphMRA, ESOMAR and MRS

Capabilities
─ Advanced/expert ethics and compliance knowledge, to include:
- BHBIA Legal & Ethical Guidelines
- BHBIA Data Analytics Guidelines
- ABPI/BHBIA AE/PC/SRS Guidance
- MRS Code of Conduct
- ABPI Code of Practice
- UK GDPR/EU GDPR
─ A sound understanding of market research principles, processes, approaches and mediums and data analytics covering the sales force effectiveness, customer and insights areas.
─ A strong eye for detail and concern to ‘get it right’
─ Tenacity to chase down information and follow up with people
─ An ability to translate complex regulations into practical and easy to understand guidance
─ Strong communication skills including presenting to both large and small audiences
─ Flexibility: Ability and willingness to adapt to respond to important news and urgent needs and ability to view a situation from differing perspectives e.g. end client, agency researcher, interviewer, analyst
─ Relationship building: Ability to convince and influence others – compliance isn’t always a welcome subject, development and maintenance of a network of contacts inside and outside the BHBIA and client service orientation
