Ethics and Guidelines Training

BHBIA Legal and Ethical Guidelines for Healthcare Market Research

Hamilton House, Mabledon Place, London WC1H 9BD
Thursday 27 April 2017, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

As continuing emphasis is being placed on compliance across all areas of marketing activity by both pharmaceutical companies and data protection agencies, adherence to the BHBIA Legal & Ethical Guidelines for Healthcare Market Research has never been more important.

This practical one-day workshop is a core pillar of the BHBIA training programme and is updated each year to ensure it incorporates the latest changes in guidance and gives you a chance to build your knowledge of all the important topics. The day revolves around a real-life (anonymised) case study. The workshop will be highly interactive, giving you the in-depth understanding that comes from working through each element of the case-study and discussing real-life issues with colleagues from across the industry.

The workshop will be based on the latest (September 2016) BHBIA Legal & Ethical Guidelines, and will include the opportunity to discuss any recent changes in guidance.

We also reference key elements of the current ABPI/BHBIA Adverse Event Reporting Guidelines and the BHBIA's Guidelines for the Use of Secondary Data.

Topics:

The day will cover these topics, following a case-study through the steps of a market research project from the RFP stage through to closing the project:

  • Request for Proposal (RfP) & Proposal Stage
  • Sample & Respondent Ethics
  • Recruitment & Recompense (including guidance on Clause 23 of the ABPI Code, ABPI requirements for disclosure of payments made to known healthcare professionals and the BHBIA guidance on incentives)
  • Questionnaires, Guides & Stimulus materials
  • Fieldwork (including different methodologies, AE collection and observation)
  • Analysis, Reporting & Publication
  • Closing a Project (AER reconciliation & data storage)

Who should attend?

  • This workshop is suitable for all healthcare business intelligence professionals who would like to refresh their knowledge and understand what is covered in the revised Legal and Ethical Guidelines - and, more importantly, how to apply that knowledge in real-life market research situations.
  • It is suitable for all levels, from new starters upwards.
  • The workshop is complementary to the web-based training programmes and will give the opportunity to discuss the key compliance issues in a case study environment. You are advised to study the web-based training before attending, to help you get the most from the day.

If you have already attended this workshop and/or already have an in-depth knowledge of the Guidelines and their practical application, you may prefer to attend our Developing your Ethics Expertise - Further Guidance workshop on 12th October instead, particularly if your role includes responsibility for compliance within your company.

Preparation for the workshop:

Please familiarise yourself with the BHBIA Legal and Ethical Guidelines and take the online BHBIA Legal and Ethical Guidelines Training for Market Researchers, which you can access via Online Training/Tests in the main menu of the BHBIA website (this will take you to our training microsite - please log into the main site first, to ensure that you can access the training slides).

If you are a BHBIA member or certified non-member we also recommend that you take the online Competency Test, if you have not already done so.  This provides certification of a basic level of competency, which we will build on in the workshop.
