André is a
commercial lawyer focussing on regulatory compliance and processes,
specialising in data protection issues. André will be talking to us
about Building the Contract.
David Cole, fastmap
David is the Managing
Director and Founder of fastmap, a market research agency and
consultancy that also specialises in the marketing of consent. David
will discuss How to optimise consent as well as other legal bases for market research.
Julie Corney, Market Research Society Policy & Standards team
Julie is the MRS Standards & Compliance Manager, supporting the Director of the MRS Policy Unit in the enforcement of professional standards and providing co-ordination for the investigation of disciplinary cases. Julie also provides guidance on matters of professional ethics to researchers, interviewers, and the general public, both directly via Codeline and also via a panel of advisers.
Julie will be running our discussion sessions, making sure that we have the perspective of the world’s leading research association.
Mike Martin, Griffin House Consultancy
Mike
is a Data Protection Consultant and Trainer, a specialist in data
protection, information governance and auditing. He will be will be
talking about Navigating an audit.
Jane Landles, Consultant, PMCPA
Jane Landles was the Secretary of the PMCPA until March last year when she retired after 21 years with the Authority. Jane now works part time as a consultant to the Authority. Originally trained as a pharmacist (although no longer registered as such), Jane started her career in hospital pharmacy before moving into the pharmaceutical industry, first in medical information and then in promotional affairs; she was ultimately a nominated signatory for a large UK company.
The PMCPA are the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority (PMCPA) established by ABPI to operate the ABPI Code of Practice for the Pharmaceutical Industry. Jane will be talking about ABPI Code of Practice requirements and how they impact market research, with particular reference to disguised promotion, she will also be participating in one of the discussion and question sessions.

Christine Dunbar - Compliance Director, Adelphi Research
Christine is Global Compliance Director at Adelphi Research. She has
over 20 years Market Research experience in an agency environment and is
a qualified ISO Quality Management Systems lead auditor. She oversees
internal quality assurance and compliance issues within the Adelphi
group of companies, making sure the group comply with international and
national laws, as well as the requirements of regulators, professional
bodies and clients. Christine is also responsible for data protection
and is leading the GDPR initiative for the Adelphi group. She is part
of EphMRA’s Compliance/Privacy Officer Network which discusses members’
ethical issues and supports the Ethics Committee.
Matteo Cappai - Healthcare Compliance Officer, Ipsos Healthcare
- Matteo has been professionally engaged with the Healthcare Market Research industry for the last 10 years and currently holds the position of Healthcare Compliance Officer, overseeing Ipsos Healthcare’s compliance framework; he is a member of the BHBIA Ethics & Compliance Committee and also of the EphMRA Ethics Committee.
- Throughout his career, which ranges from first-hand experience in data collection to working as a client service manager he had a privileged position in witnessing an increased focus in the compliance field which has led him to develop a genuine interest in dealing with pharmacovigilance, data protection and participating in discussions with leading industry regulatory bodies and pharmaceutical clients.
- Matteo holds Foundation Certificate in UK Data Protection,
Certificate in Information Security Management Principles, Certificate
in Good Pharmacovigilance Practices (GPvP) and is a qualified Internal
Auditor for ISO 9001, ISO 20252 and ISO 27001.

Catherine Ayland - Independent Ethics Consultant to the BHBIA
Catherine Ayland is an independent market research consultant specialising in the healthcare field. Catherine has been the BHBIA’s independent Ethics Consultant since 2005 and in this capacity she is responsible for developing and maintaining the BHBIA’s Legal and Ethical Guidelines. Prior to working as a freelance consultant, which she has done for the last 15 years, Catherine spent 13 years on the client side, ultimately heading up the international market research team within Boots Pharmaceuticals.
Catherine's role involves regular liaison with the MRS, the ABPI (Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry), the PMCPA (the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority), the ICO (information Commissioners Office) and with EphMRA (European Pharmaceutical Market Research Association) and ESOMAR too. She is also Ethics Consultant to EphMRA.
Pat Leach - Senior Business Insight Lead - MSD / Training Team Lead - BHBIA Ethics & Compliance Committee
Having studied Chemistry I started my career in the R&D labs making nasty smells and sticky messes but soon realised there was more to the Pharma industry. Having moved between agency and client roles and covering a broad range of therapy areas my interest in compliance and the ethical/legal side of the business has grown and expanded. Now working for MSD I am involved in all aspects of contracting, adherence to the codes and helping others navigate the compliance world.
Dr Jessica Santos - Global Compliance and Quality Director, Kantar Health / Guidelines Team Lead, BHBIA Ethics & Compliance Committee
Dr. Jessica Santos is the Global Compliance Director in Kantar Health, the largest custom market research company focused on the life sciences industry. Jessica is primarily responsible for providing oversight and support across the 40+ Kantar Health (KH) global offices in the area of regulation, interaction with clients, suppliers and others within Kantar Health, Kantar and WPP. Jessica is responsible for maintaining, anticipating and coordinating all activities with regard to compliance laws/regulations and quality framework on RWR (Real World Research) and MR (Market Research).
Jessica is an experienced statistician, analyst and methodologist. She gained her reputation through her publications and professional committee work in the industry. Jessica is a frequent speaker and contributor in major conferences. She has a PhD in Marketing and MRS fellowship.
Jessica is a member of EphMRA Compliance Network, UK Research Ethics Committee, reviewer and chair of ISPOR (International Society of Pharmaco-economic and Outcome Research) Code of Conduct Committee.
