The Chair’s Award: Best Approach to Sustainability

BACK

Awarded for an approach that applied clear sustainability principles throughout the lifecycle of the project, leading to improved sustainability outcomes compared to past practices, thereby helping to preserve our planet as our main life support system and source of quality of life.
Key requirements:
  • Showcase the difference/improvement in the approach adopted for the project, in terms of resource use, carbon emissions, waste management or other aspect of environmental sustainability compared to past practices in similar projects
  • Highlight the sustainability considerations and the impact they had on the project.
Answering the following questions should help bring your submission to life:
  • What was different in terms of sustainability in conducting this project compared with how it would have been done in the past?
  • How was sustainability considered as an important element of the project?
  • How was the sample/methodological approach put together and which stakeholders were involved in this discussion (Client/ Agency/ Field)?
  • How were the business objectives achieved, taking into account the sustainability modifications in the project design?
  • Were there any compromises or was the same quality of result achieved?•
  • What additional sustainability considerations were taken into account for this project, over and above what your company would currently do as standard of practice?
  • How did conducting the project in this way influence your sustainability approach to future projects?
  • How has conducting the project this way influenced your client and field partner relationships?
Key judging parameters:
  • The judges are interested in understanding how environmental sustainability principles and approaches were applied in the submitted project and the impact of these. In effect, throughout judging, we will be asking ourselves the following questions: “To what extent has the team truly thought about environmental sustainability when they were delivering this project?” and “How successful and impactful were the environmental sustainability approaches that were implemented?”
  • While you may present your submission in any way you deem suitable, as a starting point, we suggest thinking through the following questions:
    • Carbon accounting: how aware were you of the carbon footprint of the project?
    • Behaviour change: what was done directly to reduce carbon emissions linked to the project?
    • Carbon offsetting: how was the footprint indirectly managed with carbon offsets?
    • How were circular economy /reduce/reuse/recycle principles considered?
    • Were any environmental contributions/charitable donations associated with the project?
    • How was your company or client engaged with sustainability principles?
    • How were your downstream suppliers engaged with sustainability principles?
