Angela McFarlane - Market Development Director, IQVIA
Angela is Market Development Director for IQVIA, a human data sciences company formed through the 2016 merger of IMS Health and Quintiles. She works with Government, the NHS, the Pharmaceutical Industry and Patient Organisations on pioneering collaborations that will improve NHS patient access to medicines. She has over ten years’ experience in the commercialisation of rare disease medicines. Angela’s passion is working on initiatives that ensure grows post-Brexit as a priority country for inward investment in clinical research, real world evidence studies and new medicines launches.
Angela founded and sold her own Market Access company to IMS Health in 2013; prior to this she was marketing director of a managed care hospital in Manchester, preceded by working for BMS and MSD in marketing. In 2018, she was nominated by Pharmaceutical Marketing Europe as one of the 30 most influential women in UK Healthcare.
David Butler FCIPS - Director at Compass Solutions
David has more than 30 years’ experience within procurement and supply chain across a range of industries – the last 12 years focused within the generic pharmaceutical and biopharma sectors.
During this time he has supported a wide range of businesses; from large multi-nationals to start-ups, within the UK and across Europe.
David is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply, with a pragmatic and commercially astute approach to aligning a company’s Supply Chain to their strategic objectives.
Catherine Ayland - Independent Ethics Consultant to the BHBIA
Catherine Ayland is an independent market research consultant specialising in the healthcare field. Catherine has been the BHBIA’s independent Ethics Consultant since 2005 and in this capacity she is responsible for developing and maintaining the BHBIA’s Legal and Ethical Guidelines. Prior to working as a freelance consultant, which she has done for the last 15 years, Catherine spent 13 years on the client side, ultimately heading up the international market research team within Boots Pharmaceuticals.
Catherine's role involves regular liaison with the MRS, the ABPI (Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry), the PMCPA (the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority), the ICO (information Commissioners Office) and with EphMRA (European Pharmaceutical Market Research Association) and ESOMAR too.

Kate started her career in Pharma straight out of University in 2005 where she spent time as a Project Manager for a Contract Sales Organisation – fast becoming a jack-of-all-trades for things Sales Team related. This spanned recruitment to HR and CRM systems to sales data analysis. A move within the Business Intelligence departments of one of her clients saw her skill set developed to manage key aspects of Sales Force Effectiveness (including writing and managing incentive schemes, territory structuring, sub national data analytics, CRM system development) in addition to supporting the internal Marketing, Market Access and Commercial teams with their data driven insight generation from Brand Planning to tactical execution.
Prior to setting up KES Consultancy, Kate was a Business Intelligence Analyst at AbbVie in which role she was a member of 3 cross functional brand teams within AbbVie. This not only brought challenges of managing appropriate market, strategic planning and performance data, but also managing priorities, time and stakeholder expectations.
A past attendee of various BHBIA training events over the years, and now a member of the BHBIA Board, Kate is now keen to share her own experiences of managing business questions from the aspect of the analyst. She is a passionate believer in aspiring to shift perceptions of analysts from
